Instrument Overview

Generally, male pigeons carry ZZ sex chromosomes, while female pigeons have ZW chromosomes. Pigeon gender cannot be reliably determined by external appearance, as they lack obvious sexual dimorphism.
However, gender identification can be accurately achieved through DNA-based genetic testing. This method relies on the difference in sex chromosomes: by detecting the presence or absence of specific genetic markers, the instrument can reliably determine whether a pigeon is male or female.

Instrument Structure

The Pigeon & Parrot Sex Detector is a real-time amplification and detection instrument, mainly composed of:
  1. Gene Amplification Thermal Cycler System

  2. Real-time Fluorescence Detection System

  3. Microcircuit Control System

  4. Computer and application software

The two core functional modules are the thermal cycler system and the real-time fluorescence detection system.
  • The gene amplification thermal cycler uses semiconductor heating and cooling to perform thermal cycling, with a working principle similar to conventional PCR instruments.

  • The fluorescence detection system consists of a fluorescence excitation unit, optical signal transmission components, a fluorescence detection unit, and a control system.
